A Closet, Slowly
Closets in small homes don’t have much patience. There’s very little room for “maybe someday,” and not much space for duplicates, backups, or clothes that almost fit the life you’re actually living. This closet declutter is long overdue. I’m a 50-ish woman living in a small coastal home, and my closet has quietly held pieces from several versions of me — work clothes, casual layers, hopeful purchases, and items saved simply because they were still “good.” Over time, the door became harder to close, and choosing something to wear became louder than it needed to be. This series will be slow and very real. I’ll be doing try-ons, naming brands, and sharing fabric details (cotton, linen, wool, blends), because how something feels matters as much as how it looks. Some pieces will surprise me. Others will be easy to let go. None of it will be perfect. Limited space means everything has to earn its place. I want a closet that supports everyday life, homeschooling days, errands, quiet mornings, coastal weather, and the simple routines that make up this season. Not a capsule fantasy. Just clothes that fit, feel comfortable, and get worn. There will be pauses. Second thoughts. A few “why did I keep this?” moments. That’s part of it. Decluttering a closet at midlife isn’t about starting over, it’s about editing honestly. This series will live on YouTube, taken one section at a time. No rush. No rules. Just real progress, made gently. I’ll start where I am. And I’ll leave it here for today.
